We do see ourselves as professional designers and are happy to make recommendations. That said our number one objective is designing what our clients want provided it fits within their budget and adheres to local building codes. We are not locked into stock cabinetry or one source for tile or faucets. We also do not try to impose our personal tastes when they may differ, after all the clients will be living in the home not us.
